How to install D-Link Wireless Range Extenders (DAP-1620)

Wireless range extends can be used to extend your already existing wireless network. D-link range extenders are one of the best extenders out there for their ease of setup and reliability.

There are 3 ways to setup

  1. By QRS mobile app
  2. By WPS setup
  3. Manual setup

 

  1. By QRS mobile app

D-Link has QRS mobile app, which can be used to set-up most routers and range extenders. The app can be downloaded from Apple appstore or Google playstore.

Step :1

Plugin your extender to a power outlet and wait until the LED on the extender turns flashing amber

Step:2

Download QRS mobile app from Apple Appstore or Google playstore.

Step: 3

Connect your mobile phone or tablet to your D-Link extender wifi network.  The default wifi name and password for the extender will be on the configuration card received with the extender or should be on the extender label.

Step:4

Once your device is connected to the extender wifi network, open the QRS mobile app. Click on Start. Make sure you select right ‘operation mode’, here it is as extender/repeater and then click Next

Step: 5

It will scan for all wireless networks available. Select your Wi-Fi (SSID)/home Wi-Fi name for which you wanted to extend the network.

Step:6 

Type the password for your Wi-Fi network you are connecting to. Next step, it will ask you to change your extender wireless name and password for both 2.4 GHz and 5 GHz networks and click Next.

Step: 7

Create the admin password for the extender (you may need it in case if you want to change your extender Wi-Fi name and password later).

Click Next, check your final Wi-Fi names and password and click Save.

Once finished, you should see ‘Congratulations’ screen, click on OK.

Then re-connect your devices to the extender Wi-Fi network and you are good to go.

The LED on the extenders will turn ‘Solid Green’ if everything goes smooth.

Note: Extenders may have difficulty connecting to Sagemcom & Pace modem/router’s.

Finding Wi-Fi password on a Windows 10 computer

If the computer is already connected to the wifi network and want to know the password.

Note: You should have admin access to the computer

Right click on the Windows logo and click on Network Connections.

Right Click on WiFi Adapter, click on Status and then Wireless Properties

Click on Security tab, it should should show the Security type and Network Security Key, which is your WiFi password. (Click on show characters to view the password)

IPv4 address on Windows 8

Step 1

Go to Control Panel.

Here we will illustrate different ways to find control panel on Windows 8.

1)   Press “Windows key  +F”, a search box will come out, please input control panel and press enter; or

2)Press “Windows key+ R”, then there will be a “run” box, input control panel and press enter; or

3)   Press “Windows key +X”, and click on “control panel”; or

4) You can also input “control panel” in the search bar on the right-hand side of the screen.

Step 2

Click on Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center, click on Change adapter settings on the left side.

Step 3

Highlight and right click on Ethernet, go to Status -> Details. The IP address will display.

For wireless IP address, right click on wireless or wifi, go to Status > Details. The IP address will display.

Step 1

Click Start ->Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center.

Step 2

In the task list(on the left), click on Change adapter settings. Highlight and right click the Local Area Connection icon; click on Status and go to Details. The IPv4 (IP) address will display.

For wireless(Wi-Fi) IP address, right click on wireless or Wifi icon; click on Status and go to Details

Step 1

Click Start ->Control Panel -> Network and Internet -> Network and Sharing Center.

In the task list, please click Manage network connections. Highlight and right click the Local Area Connection icon; click on Status and go to Details. The IP address will display.

Note: If your computer is connected to a wireless network please click Wireless network connection icon

Step 1

Click Start->Control Panel->select and click Network and internet connections ( If you can’t find it, please go next) ->select and double click Network Connections.

Step 2

Highlight and right click the Local Area Connection icon; click on Status and go to Support. The IP address will display.
